About the Fipple Soprano Recorders
The Fipple recorders are a wonderful entry-level instrument from Mollenhauer. It is available in four vibrant colors and each model is associated with a humorous character.
The child-friendly, high-quality combination of materials is a proven recipe for a successful start to making music. Robust, reliable and comfortable, with a curved windway, it offers a good response throughout the tonal range and balanced intonation. The elegant shape of the recorder’s beak and the sweeping design of the instrument open up a connection to baroque models right from the start.
The wooden body with a hand-finished, oiled surface ensures a pleasant feel and a beautiful sound.
The plastic head facilitates hygienic care. Simply rinse it with lukewarm water and let it dry outside the bag to keep it clean.
The Fipple Story and Game
Each Fipple model is associated with a character that children can identify with.
The colourful world of the Fipples gives the imagination wings and stimulates learning. In addition to the instrument, helpful supporting material is available:
• The Adventurous Fipple Story
• The Happy Fipple Song – short musical exercises for a playful start
• The Fipple Game – put it together yourself for tons of fun and excitement.
Fingering Options
Baroque: This is the standard among the most widespread entry-level instruments. The double holes make it easier to finger semitones accurately when they are introduced at a later stage of learning. This is the fingering we recommend for beginners in most cases.
German with Single Holes: This is the simplest fingering arrangement, but students will need to adjust to different fingerings later in their musical development. In the basic scale, the number of forked fingerings is reduced; playing the lowest semitones is avoided for beginners.
German with Double Holes: This fingering supports specific learning concepts: in the basic scale, the number of fork fingerings is reduced. The double holes make it easier to finger semitones accurately when they are introduced at a later stage of learning. The student will need to adjust to different fingerings later in their musical development.

Made to Order Instruments
Some of the instruments we carry are made to order. This means that the workshop will only begin crafting the instrument once an order has been placed. For this reason we require a partial deposit to begin an order or, in some cases, will ask for the full balance at the outset. Once we receive the final product, we will contact you to pay any outstanding balance. When the full payment has been processed, we will ship the instrument. If you would like to purchase a made to order instrument, please contact us.
Please note that, because made to order instruments are made per request, they take longer to craft and ship than other, ready-made instruments. If timing is an issue please let us know before you place your order. We will do our best to accommodate or we will direct you to an alternative option that can be shipped in time.
All sales on made to order instruments are considered final sales and are ineligible for return. If there is a quality issue or the instrument has been damaged, we will work with you to have the problem fixed.
